Duke Board Game

Designed by Jeremy Holcomb, Stephen McLaughlin,

The Duke is a dynamic, tile-based strategy game with an old-world, feudal theme, high-quality wooden playing pieces, and an innovative game mechanism in its double-sided tiles. Each side represents a different posture – often considered to be defensive or offensive – and demonstrates exactly what the piece can do within the turn. At the end of a move (or after the use of a special ability), the tile is flipped to its other side, displaying a new offensive or defensive posture.

Each posture conveys different options for maneuver and attack. The full circle is a standard Move, the hollow circle the Jump, the arrow provides for the Slide, the star a special Strike ability and so on. Each turn a player may select any tile to maneuver, attempting to defend his own troops while positioning himself to capture his opponent's tiles. If you end your movement in a square occupied by an opponent's tile, you capture that tile. Capture your opponent's Duke to win!

The Selenus chess set is one of the most elegant classical chess set styles in use before the standardization of chess pieces that happened after the Staunton chess set was launched, in 1849 by John Jaques of London games manufacturer.
The Selenus sets, were typical of Germany and Northern Europe and named after Gustavus Selenus, the pen name of Augustus the Younger, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, author of the Chess or the King's Game, an important chess manual published in the 17th century. The standard included delicate lathe turned bases and shafts and tiers with circlets resembling crowns. Pieces were distinguished by heights, the number of tiers.

These chessmen can also be called "Garden Chess Sets" because their theme frequently consisted of "formal flower gardens" - Kings and Queens were Fountains; Bishops and Pawns were flowers; Knights were gentle horses; and Rooks became civic towers instead of battlements. In England they were frequently called "Tulip Chess Sets".

The classic detective game! Players move from room to room in a mansion to solve the mystery of: who done it, with what, and where? Players are dealt character, weapon, and location cards after the top card from each card type is secretly placed in the confidential file in the middle of the board. Players must move to a room and then make an accusation against a character saying they did it in that room with a specific weapon. The player to the left must show one of any cards accused to the accuser if in that player's hand. Through deductive reasoning each player must figure out which character, weapon, and location are in the secret file. To do this, each player must uncover what cards are in other players hands by making more and more accusations. Once a player knows what cards the other players are holding, they will know what cards are in the secret file. A great game for those who enjoy reasoning and thinking things out.

You can have detailed hallways and ornate rooms, if you like you can even add furniture and box it similar to the Franklin Mint edition.

One of the most famous and iconic props from Star Trek is the three dimensional chess set, and the most generally associated were the Ganine “Classic Style” chess pieces.

Peter Ganine (October 11, 1900 – August 11, 1974) was a Russian-American sculptor best known for his work in ceramics and his chess sets. When Ganine gave human faces to chess pieces, he introduced "first major change of design for chess sets in more than a century.

The only piece not quite matching the original design by Peter is the Knight as I thought the staunton style horse shape looked better, and this piece needs supports.
